Guido Jack In Italia

Fall Recap

Wow. Okay, so it is almost December and I can't believe how much time has passed since I last updated the blog! Sorry everyone. After our epic summer, we finally returned to Bologna at the beginning of September so that Guido Jack could start school. We've been enjoying our new routines and are finally settling down in our new hometown!

1- Guido's first day of school! Though he wasn't so happy when we actually left him there...
2- I couldn't resist taking a picture of my new red bicycle. I love it. It 's perfect for exploring the city!
3- We took a hike on the trail that links Bologna to Florence. It is stunning!
4- After trekking for a little over 2km, Guido and cousin Laura take a pit stop.
5- Italian-style picnic at the summit: beers, fruit, lots of meats, and savory pies! What's not to like?

Naked Tennis Anyone?

We picked up a set of kid-sized tennis racquets and full sized balls at Ikea at the beginning of the summer. Guido has been obsessed with Peldi's tennis racquet for quite some time now. It's crazy but Guido is really good!

1- Looking like a pro.
2- Maybe it's a naked thing!?

Happy Birthday Peldi!

For the first time in a long time, we got to spend Peldi's birthday with his family. We spent a fabulous day swimming, relaxing and playing at La Sperduta with lots of family. The highlight of the day was making homemade pizzas and cooking them in the outdoor wood burning pizza oven.

1- Farmer Guido collecting "wood" for the fire.
2- The fire is starting to get really white hot. Note: once the pizza oven got hot enough, the smoldering wood was removed to make way for the dozen or so pizzas that we made. The embers were shoveled into the nearby wheelbarrow on top of foil covered potatoes. They cooked while the pizzas cooked. DELISH!
3- Guido and Cousin Giacomo helped make the pizza dough. What a winning team!
4- Can I get a disc-a-dough-to-go? These pizzas were top quality believe me. Round pizzas. Square pizzas. Pizza pies, oh my!
5- The birthday celebration ended with a magnum of champagne and an incredibly tasty torta made with love by Zia Alice.

It was the Summer of the Jump

1- Watch out Michael Phelps! Guido worked on his dive entry into the pool all summer long. Along with hundreds of laps, back and forth, until the sun went down.
2- The view from the pool near Santa Cesarea Terme. I walked all the way down these stairs and found myself face to face with Zio Vincenzo fresh off of his boat. Not a bad way to make an entrance at the club!
3- Back in Porto Cesareo, Guido practices the long jumps. The routine involves running down the beach away from the hole, he turns and runs back while counting 1-10, yells "Mermaid" and does his jump.
4- It never gets old.
5- Sometimes he even gets the attention of bikini clad babes!

Ferragosto Continued

Our day ended with a 4 hour boat ride around the heel of the boot. For the first hour or so we were all in a food coma. But when we made our first stop to explore a grotto (cave) we rallied and put on snorkeling gear. Guido chilled on the boat (with adult supervision of course) but had a great time watching us in the water.

1-  Approaching one of the caves. Guido pointed out that a lion lives in the top hole. Right?
2-  Getting closer. We actually took the boat inside!
3-  Guido was not totally convinced that this was the best plan.
4-  Pirates of Puglia?
5-  Silly flag, it's always in someone's face!

Ferragosto

We were invited down to Torre Vado for Ferragosto. What a treat!

1- Torre Vado. I didn't take any pictures of the inside, but this house is so cool! Thanks Zia Anna for having us over!
2- Shrimp and fish prepare to meet the grill!
3- You have to realize that pasta is just a first course.
4- After our amazingly extravagant and delicious 4 hour lunch, Guido Jack and Great-Grandmother Enrica decide that a nap on the boat is a great idea.
